Lithograph

Edition Size: Five
Print Size: about 11x15"

Students have the option of creating the print using stone, aluminum plate, photo-plate, or polyester plate technology. However, as each of these requires separate demonstrations and materials, all enrolled students will have to agree on which method will be used. Other media may be explored later in the semester as a research project, or a student choice project.

Sketch ideas

If a drawing is to be made on the stone or plate, start by making a pencil or charcoal drawing of the same size in your sketchbook. Lithographic drawing materials are similar to grease pencils, so the drawing should be tonal, rather than linear in nature. Fine lines are difficulty to achieve with lithography.

Take notes

Lithography is very complicated and temperamental. Take clear and accurate notes during demos. Some printed handouts may also be available, but your notes should be your primary reference.

Proof and print edition.

As this is primarily a technical assignment, take care to print carefully. Compare each impression to your B.A.T. to make sure the print isn't gradually lightening or darkening as you print.

Sign and number your prints appropriately.
