In upper level studio courses, students should be self-directed in their scholarly and creative production. Each student must develop a plan for completing one or more projects within the semester. These projects should be gallery-ready, finished pieces. (Lower level students may also elect to complete a research project, with the permission of the instructor.)
Also, in upper-level studio courses, students should concentrate on the creation of a cohesive body of work. The work made in these courses should have some formal, technical or conceptual connection with other work you have created, including work in other media. These ideas should be referenced in your artist statement.
Use the forms supplied above to plan and document projects completed in upper level studio art courses (300 and 400 level courses). Each student may complete a number of projects in each course, or just one, depending on the complexity and scope of the projects. You must meet with your instructor at the beginning of the course to determine an appropriate amount of work for your course.
In addition to the research projects, all upper level studio courses will also require and Art History project and may require other assignments, as determined by your instructor.
Your research should be largely self-directed, but you need to keep your instructor involved. You should be working on your project during class, and meet with your instructor about the project and your process frequently.
