Comprehensive Test Questions

AQIP for Adjuncts! (Academic Quality Improvement Program)

Adjunct faculty teaching in the BFA program have two AQIP responsibilities.

The first is the AQIP mini project. This is required of every faculty member.

The second is the AQIP digital portfolio. This is required of all ART courses exceptART 10303 Art Appreciation.

AQIP Mini Project

EVERY person who teaches a class at Rio must do an AQIP mini-project that studies student learning in one class each semester. That is: one faculty does one project in one class Fall Semester. In Spring, that faculty must do a different project in a different class, until the faculty member has done a project in every class they teach. Then they can go back to the first class, and do a project that studies a different aspect of the class.

Botttom line: IT NEVER ENDS!

AQIP mini-project instructions:

Pick some aspect of student learning to study. Measure it, using a rubric. Then study the data to see what you need to do to improve student learning. Then do it. Then measure student learning again (using the same rubric) and see if what you did was effective. Write it all up in a word document.

Paul Dovyak is the University's AQIP coordinator. He reminds us of the following guidelines:

Select a NEW course each term, until your courseload begins to repeat.

When you are eligible to repeat coursework, develop a new/different project within that course.

If you continue to embed a mini-assessment project within a course because you have found that it contributes to student learning, please continue but it will not count as a new mini-project.

You need to send everything to Paul Dovyak. He should get two emails from you. CC these emails to Benjy Davies, who is the art department coordinator.

Email #1: Fill out the first part of the form, and attach it, and attach your rubric. This means you have studied student learning and measured it with your rubric. You also have a plan for improving their understanding or skills in a certain area.
This email is due in the third week of class. Send to both Paul and Benjy.

Email #2: Fill out the remainder of the form, and attach it, again with your rubric. This means you have implemented your little plan, and tested/measured students again, and used the same rubric. You have drawn conclusions about the effectiveness of your efforts.
This email is due at the end of the semester.Send to both Paul and Benjy.

AQIP Digital Portfolio

If you are teaching any course other than Art Appreciation or FPA, you must require your students to turn in a digital portfolio that documents their competence in the course material. Each learning objective listed on your syllabus must be somehow measurable via this digital portfolio. This portfolio may contain some word docs, but should be primarily images. The details for for format and size are listed here.

You must forward to Benjy Davies a list of all of the required images, with the exact naming conventions you wish to use, according to the general guidelines on this page. This information will be posted here for students to access when making their digital portfolios. Faculty must submit all of their student portfolios to Benjy Davies on the same day as grades are due.
