A fan of comedian Tommy Cooper, and an understudy of the great English actor Sir Laurence Olivier, Anthony Hopkins is probably the most famous alumnus of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, Wales.

Best known for portraying the cannibal Hannibal Lekter in the movies Silence of the Lambs and its sequels Hannibal and Red Dragon, Hopkins has amassed a lengthy list of starring roles, and has been awarded two Emmys, one Oscar, and the BAFTA.

He was awarded the honorary title Commander of the British Empire in 1993, a title he was allowed to keep even after becoming an American citizen.
